Office of Policy Internship Program

The Office of Policy offers non-paid internships for interested undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. Past interns have had diverse educational interests, such as pharmacy, law, government, economics, and management. Our interns have worked on congressional hearings, drug importation investigations, novel disease outbreak issues, and briefings for senior agency officials. As an Office of Policy intern, you can expect to work on substantive projects, develop professional skills, and benefit from the personal attention of a mentor.

Purpose of Internship Program

The primary purpose of the Office of Policy internship program is to give students an opportunity to learn about federal programs, policies, and practices first-hand. By the end of the internship, each student will have the skills and knowledge necessary to allow him or her to make a significant contribution to public health.

Intern Qualifications

All Interns must:

Be at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship.
Have completed at least two semesters of college education.
Be a current undergraduate or graduate student attending a college or university in the United States, or have just graduated in the same year of the Internship.

Selection

Interns will be selected based on their application and demonstrated interest in public service. This may include:

Cover letter and resume;
Academic excellence;
3 Letters of recommendation;
Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of government and politics;
Evidence of the skills needed to assist FDA;
Personal maturity;
The candidate’s potential contribution to the Program; and
The anticipated benefits for the candidate.

Upon acceptance, candidates must consent to the following:

Security clearance prior to their start date
Random drug test

Intern Biological Chemistry at GNF

The department of Biological Chemistry at GNF has an internship available for a chemistry major. GNF applies integrated state-of-the-art technologies in chemistry, biology, automation, and information sciences in order to pursue new approaches towards the understanding of complex biomedical problems in cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, and metabolic as well as infectious disease. The successful candidate will participate in natural products isolation and synthesis of novel bioactive organic molecules. Applicants should have completed one year of general and organic chemistry and be familiar with basic organic laboratory technique.
