June 16 – August 22, 2014

Get practical experience in Chemical Sciences this summer. CENTC invites college students with an interest in chemistry to apply for a unique summer research program as part of a collaborative distributed center.

What is CENTC?

The Center for Enabling New Technologies Through Catalysis (CENTC) is a NSF Center for Chemical Innovation that focuses on the use of catalysis to develop new chemical processes that will have significant societal impact. Research projects include devising new ways to produce clean, efficient fuels and ways to convert renewable resources to fuels and useful chemicals.

What are the benefits of this research program?

As a CENTC Undergraduate Summer Research Fellow you will:

  • Explore the frontiers of research in catalytic chemistry with a focus on efficient ways of making chemicals and fuels from renewable sources
  • Conduct research as part of a collaborative research center
  • Receive $5,000 stipend plus compensation for travel and housing
  • Interact with peers and scientists throughout the center via videoconferences
  • Be invited to attend the CENTC Annual Meeting in Seattle in September and present your work to Center faculty and students from all CENTC institutions as well as industrial affiliates
  • Experience life as a scientist

Who should apply?

  • Undergraduate students at all levels with an interest in chemical sciences and gaining practical research, with preference given to rising juniors and seniors
  • CENTC strongly encourages applications from women and individuals from groups underrepresented in the sciences
  • Previous research experience is not required
  • Participants must be United States Citizens or permanent residents.
