Job Description

Each year, MRSEC funds up to 10 exemplary undergraduates to participate in summer research projects in the areas of Plasmonics or Organic Spintronics. Students with interests and backgrounds in physics, chemistry, materials science, and engineering (chemical, electrical, mechanical, metallurgical) are good candidates for the MRSEC REU program.

Past research participants and projects:

A complete application includes:

1- Complete online application (submitted by 1/15/14)

2- Two online academic or professional letters of recommendation (must be submitted by 1/22/2014)

3- Official transcript sent by your college or university’s transcript office (must be received by 1/22/2014)

Information you will need to apply:
Current GPAs (overall and of math/science/engineering courses)
PDF of current resume or CV
Your availability during the program period (June 2- August 1, 2014)

The deadline to submit the online application is January 15, 2014. Submission of online letters of recommendation and official transcripts are due to the Utah MRSEC REU Administrator by January 22, 2014. Late application materials will not be considered.

Selected participants receive:

  • $4500 stipend
  • Student housing and meal plan on the University of Utah campus
  • Up to $600 toward travel expenses to and from Salt Lake City
  • Research experience to prepare you academically and professionally in science and engineering
  • Research presentation skills, technical training and professional development opportunities

The MRSEC REU Program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who will obtain an undergraduate degree after December 2014. Women and minority students are especially encouraged to apply. Students from non-research institutions may be given priority.
