Job Description

The NSF REU Site for Sustainable Aerospace and Marine Polymer Composites at The University of Southern Mississippi School of Polymers and High Performance Materials (SPHPM) was launched in the summer of 2010 under National Science Foundation award DMR-1005127.

Recognizing that the key to a sustainable future relies on the development of low weight and energy efficient materials, the SPHPM is well-positioned to achieve transformative research in the areas of polymer composite matrix development and nanostructured additives for materials property enhancement. The demand to train undergraduates to perform research in these multidisciplinary, vital research areas is a critical national need. The faculty mentors are uniquely suited to assume this role, as the Polymer Science program at Southern Miss is a world-recognized leader in innovation in polymer, nanocomposite and nanoparticle research and development activities.

This past summer we had over 14 REU participants from across the country doing research in all areas of composite development – from matrix synthesis, molecular characterization, materials testing and computational modeling for systems in solution, bulk, films and on surfaces.  The REU program will also give you a comprehensive background in polymer science and provide teambuilding and professional development activities throughout the summer.

If you would like to be part of this exciting REU program, or if you would like more information, please contact us.
